Banking and Working From Home

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Work at home opportunities on 19.08.10

When you are working in a virtual world, you really have to be extra careful when banking. Should you participate in direct deposit? I am a firm believer that if it is meant to happen-it will, but I don’t want to help it along. In my own personal transactions, I have used Paypal services for payments received from companies – as well as old fashion checks in the mail.

If you feel comfortable with the company you are working for, then by all means use direct deposit. Snail mail seems to have gotten slower over the years. Remember on direct deposit, if the company has authorization to put funds in your bank account, they also have authorization to remove them. Make sure you check out the company to verify they are issue free. The BBB is a great source for complaints on companies.

What does it take to work from home?”

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Minimizing Distractions, Work at home opportunities on 16.07.10

Working from home brings unique challenges. People tend to believe you are sitting at your computer playing and tend not to take your work seriously. Family can be the worst when it comes to work boundaries. Set up working guidelines early in your work from home career. Let family know that when you are in your office, you are off limits unless it is an emergency. If you have small children at home, try to set up scheduled activities to keep them occupied while you work. Plan focused work during nap time or time when you know you will have uninterrupted work time.

Don’t answer the phone when personal calls come in. Let your extended family know your working hours and when you typically take a lunch break for those times that just can’t wait until the end of the day.

Prepare yourself for interruption hurdles knowing the work from home journey is well worth it.
