Misconceptions of Working from Home

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Minimizing Distractions on 26.10.17

Working from my virtual home office is the best thing I have ever done for myself and my family. However, not everyone feels that way. There are some virtual workers that need the everyday office drama, water cooler conversation and feel somewhat isolated from the day to day grind of the traditional brick and mortar job.

I personally have more interaction with people working from my home office than I would if I worked outside of the home. By working virtually, I am able to pick and choose my working relationships. In a traditional office, I would be required to interact with everyone.

Do you need ideas on how to set up your virtual home office?

Check out Melissa’s Book-Your Virtual Home Office Can be a Reality! It has tons of great ideas on setting your work situation and starting that successful journey!

Remote Computer Access

Posted in Uncategorized on 10.10.17

Some telecommuters that work from a virtual home office are able to gain access to the main computer at the office with a virtual log in and secure server. For larger companies, remote access is a plus since they can see what the employee is doing on a regular basis.

Companies can monitor log-ins and actual work completed during the day. Working virtually with remote access still requires the home worker to have virus protection and all of the other safe working components. When choosing to work remote or with remote access, weigh all the options available with your employer.

Remember when working from home, you are solely responsible for computer upkeep and updates.

Kids and Home Offices

Posted in Uncategorized on 23.08.16

When I began working from home, my young daughter was only two years old.  It was difficult to manage her while focusing on business tasks.  Though strong determination and strategic planning, I was able to keep her engaged while I was working.   However, that plan had to be flexible to meet her quickly changing moods.

Chapter 14 of Melissa’s Book-Your Virtual Home Office Can Bea  Reality! focuses on managing children and a virtual home office.   The Life Lessons Article also relays my personal experience with managing a toddler and a home based business simultaneously.

The work from home journey is full of trial and error. Here is one of my favorite famous quotes:  “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty…by Theodore Roosevelt

How can you get started working from home?

Posted in Uncategorized on 22.03.16

I started working from home by spending hours, days and months on research. It was not a quick process. Looking for work became my full time job.  Just like most people, I paid money for a guide that had the top 100 companies that hire work from home workers. Like most guides, it was not worth the paper it was printed on. The best way to get started is:

First-define your skill set. If you have experience working on the telephones, then start in customer service. Gain experience with a company to get your feet wet in this industry. Once you have acquired the necessary skills to excel in the entry level position, start looking for the next position to add to what you are currently doing.

Next- Determine your goals. What is your plan for 1 year and then 5 years? Do you want to own a business or telecommute only? There are so many good, work from home opportunities for those that want to work hard.

Finally– Do your homework! Check out every company before going to work for them. Contact the BBB or state agency where the company is located and definitely check out some of the top WAHM chat boards. Being a newbie in any industry is tough, but being a newbie in the work from home industry can cost you money.
