Social Media and Working from your Virtual Home Office

Posted in Uncategorized on 24.11.17

It seems like everyone is on the social media sites. You have Facebook, twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, email and the list goes on and on. It can really be hard to focus on your work once you have these sites open. Sometimes because we work from home, we have a tendency to think it is not as important to keep your focus on work and turn off the distractions.

I make a point to check the sites that are important to me before starting work for the day. I am easily distracted and don’t need to hear about drama while I am working. When working from your virtual home office, you have to pick and choose when it is appropriate to take a phone call or check your social sites. Focus takes work and dedication. If you need help with distractions-check out Melissa’s book- Your Virtual Home Office Can Be a Reality!

Misconceptions of Working from Home

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Minimizing Distractions on 26.10.17

Working from my virtual home office is the best thing I have ever done for myself and my family. However, not everyone feels that way. There are some virtual workers that need the everyday office drama, water cooler conversation and feel somewhat isolated from the day to day grind of the traditional brick and mortar job.

I personally have more interaction with people working from my home office than I would if I worked outside of the home. By working virtually, I am able to pick and choose my working relationships. In a traditional office, I would be required to interact with everyone.

Do you need ideas on how to set up your virtual home office?

Check out Melissa’s Book-Your Virtual Home Office Can be a Reality! It has tons of great ideas on setting your work situation and starting that successful journey!

Home Office (Why you need a private place to work)

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Minimizing Distractions on 24.11.15

Setting up a home office is so important. First you will want a quiet place to work without any interruptions. Select a location that is out of the main area of the house and gives you complete privacy when needed. If you are working with small children, using your private office for conference calls or uninterrupted work time is not only nice but necessary.

Set up working hour boundaries with the family and stick to your scheduled times. I know I am guilty of checking emails throughout the night and this can be unfair to family that has waited for you all day.

WAHM and Telecommuting Chat Boards

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Minimizing Distractions on 12.11.15

When you are starting out working from home, locate a few chat boards that you feel comfortable with and become a member. The chat forums are filled with people like you that are looking for work and are great resources for a newbie. I joined several chat boards when I first started working from home and made friends along the way.

Joining a chat is a great way to talk about working from home as well as other day to day things that happen for Moms and Dads. We all think we have unique experiences but in this industry, we find that our experiences are quite similar. We all have the same goal: to work from home and take care of our families.

Melissa’s book has many helpful tips on getting started-Your Virtual Home Office Can Be a reality!
