Coping with Kids working from the home office

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Minimizing Distractions on 05.07.17

As school lets out for the summer break, many work-at-home parents are struggling with how to keep their kids pre-occupied while they work from the home office.    Now that my daughter is older (age 13), she requires very little of my time and does not affect my home office operations much.   However, when she was younger (in pre-school or early elementary school), keeping her busy while I was working was quite a task.

Here are few quick tips for occupying younger children during the summer break:

  • Remember that this is their summer – their break from routine.    Scheduling several interactive and engaging activities during the summer break will provide much needed “together time” and lifelong memories.
  • Depending on your situation, your work is still a priority.   You still need to accomplish specific tasks during their break.

Work with your family and children to create a balance between summer break, vacation and work.   Chapter 14 offers an array of tips for working with families.

Experience and work from home

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Minimizing Distractions on 12.08.14

Work from home experience is pooled from all prior work. Not everyone is prepared to work from home. It is simply not suited for everyone. My work at home experience started with a Licensed Home Daycare business. I set out to contribute to our household income by raising my children.

How would prior experience as a Home Daycare owner help me today in my current position as a Program Manager for a Virtual Marketing Company?

As a Home Daycare Provider, I provided:

  1. People skills. Many people cannot provide the necessary skills to work with people. It is a acquired skill and not easy to maintain.
  2. Time Management. If you are working with 10 children, feeding and providing pre-school classes for all children, you are provided a very strict schedule from 7:00am to 6:00pm daily. Time management is a must with any work from home job from landscaper to web designer to program manager.
  3. Drive. To be a success at any job whether it is in a brick and mortar business or working from your home office, you need the drive to succeed.

Can you be successful working from home?

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Work at home opportunities on 10.10.13

This is a true question that people ask. Can I really earn a living from home or is it kind of like a hobby? I have been working from home for 20 years. I always knew I wanted to work from home. I had my infant daughter in daycare when she was small and I absolutely hated it. I never knew if her needs were met and decided when my son was born, I would do whatever it took to stay home and earn a living.

Being successful is your definition. In the beginning of my career  since my children were small, I operated a state and city licensed home daycare. I had to take classes, be certified and fulfill nutritional guidelines. It was a true home business and was very successful. My definition of success at the start of my work from home career was to stay at home and raise my children as well as contribute to the household income and by this definition, I was truly a success.

My career changed as my family grew and my interests blossomed. The answer to the question is –Yes!

If you have the desire, ambition and drive needed to seek the work from career that is right for you, you will be a true success story!

Referrals and your Home business

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Work at home opportunities on 20.11.12

Referrals for any business are really important but referrals for your home business almost make the referral personal.  Once you have completed working a project for a client, ask for a referral. Nothing speaks higher of a company that a happy customer.

Encourage clients to refer future prospects to you by providing them rewards such as a reduced rate on their next business transaction or maybe a gift certificate for the referral. If you are doing events/Home parties, encourage attendees to bring friends or acquaintances and enter a drawing/door prize for the number of people that attend. The more people you bring, the more times you can enter the drawing.

There are many ways to ask for referrals and if handled correctly, can be a future source of continual revenue.  If you need ways to build your home business-check us out
