Smart Supply Shopping for your Virtual Home Office

Posted in Establish your virtual home office on 06.11.17

Many office supply retailers offer special discounts to loyal shoppers.     My local office supply store is  part of national chain, but the store personnel greet me by name.   I have been quite impressed with the rebates, discounts, and rewards programs offered to me in exchange for my loyalty.   In fact, last week my purchase equaled $90 in value (non-sale price), but I only paid $15 due to taking advantages of specials for repeat customers.

You may wish to check with your office supply vendors to determine what types of programs and discounts they offer to repeat customers.

Misconceptions of Working from Home

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Minimizing Distractions on 26.10.17

Working from my virtual home office is the best thing I have ever done for myself and my family. However, not everyone feels that way. There are some virtual workers that need the everyday office drama, water cooler conversation and feel somewhat isolated from the day to day grind of the traditional brick and mortar job.

I personally have more interaction with people working from my home office than I would if I worked outside of the home. By working virtually, I am able to pick and choose my working relationships. In a traditional office, I would be required to interact with everyone.

Home Office Blues

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else on 09.05.17

My home office makes working accessible, comfortable, and convenient.  I absolutely love this working arrangement.  I have loved this arrangement from day one, but I also know that I was well prepared for my new working environment.

Others have struggled with their home offices – rather than embracing that virtual working agreement.  If you are subject to the home office blues, it indicates that you have not prepared yourself, your family, and your workplace adequately.    To correct that problem, you may want to review that arrangement and make appropriate changes.  Check out Melissa’s Book- Your Virtual Home Office Can be a Reality! to help formulate your home office plan.

Time Management

Posted in Uncategorized on 12.07.16

Managing your time wisely while working from home can be quite the challenge. Many factors come into play when working from home. You have the neighbor that stops by to chit chat or the home room mom that calls to say “Since you are not doing anything, can you help me on Friday?” These are common scenarios with people that are located outside of the home but you also have family that tends to think you are available all the time since you are home “doing nothing”.

My day begins as a normal job would. I get up at 6:30am and get ready for work. I am in the office at 7:00am and begin my day. I work for 5 hours or so and take my scheduled lunch break away from my office. I plan my errands and other household activities around my working hours just as if I was in a brick and mortar job.  It can be tough to set business hours around the family and work from home distractions, but is something that is doable and well worth the effort.

Home Office (Why you need a private place to work)

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else, Minimizing Distractions on 24.11.15

Setting up a home office is so important. First you will want a quiet place to work without any interruptions. Select a location that is out of the main area of the house and gives you complete privacy when needed. If you are working with small children, using your private office for conference calls or uninterrupted work time is not only nice but necessary.

Set up working hour boundaries with the family and stick to your scheduled times. I know I am guilty of checking emails throughout the night and this can be unfair to family that has waited for you all day.
