Social Media and Working from your Virtual Home Office

Posted in Uncategorized on 24.11.17

It seems like everyone is on the social media sites. You have Facebook, twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, email and the list goes on and on. It can really be hard to focus on your work once you have these sites open. Sometimes because we work from home, we have a tendency to think it is not as important to keep your focus on work and turn off the distractions.

I make a point to check the sites that are important to me before starting work for the day. I am easily distracted and don’t need to hear about drama while I am working. When working from your virtual home office, you have to pick and choose when it is appropriate to take a phone call or check your social sites. Focus takes work and dedication. If you need help with distractions-check out Melissa’s book- Your Virtual Home Office Can Be a Reality!

Telecommuting Telecommunications

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else on 04.04.17

With my virtual home office, I have always connected to the latest technology.   I have constant access to my latest emails, my recent voice mails, and incoming faxes – all in the same place.  My voice mails and faxes are sent to me via email, so I can quickly view all incoming correspondence in one central location – my email inbox.  Chapter 16 highlights the use of technology in relationship to a virtual home office.

What type of work can you do as a WAH?

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Work at home opportunities on 21.07.15

When I first started working from home, there were only had a handful of jobs available in the work from home market. Today, many businesses are using remote teams to save on overhead costs. Here are a few job opportunities that I have read about:

  • Clerical
  • Telemarketing
  • Survey
  • Medical Billing
  • Medical Transcription
  • Coding
  • Dispatch work
  • Reservations
  • Customer service
  • And the list continues.

Just remember to check out all opportunities before you spend too much time and effort on them.  Never give money to anyone to work for them. There are great opportunities out there, but just as many scammers using your inexperience to boost their pocket book.

Home office Technology Blues

Posted in Establish your virtual home office, Everything Else on 05.05.15

The technology blues of working from my home office:

My DSL worked perfectly for hours and then would fail repeatedly.  My internet access was sporadic and unpredictable, and thus, my productivity was the same – sporadic and unpredictable.

Unlike the corporate world, my home based business does not have an IT department.

Bad news:

After two hours on the phone with DSL technical support, we came to the conclusion that my office phone Bluetooth was inferring with my internet connection.  The problem is now resolved, but I am now hours behind schedule.

Good news:

I may need to work into the night to get caught up – but I can work from the comfort of my home office.  Best of all, I can wear my pajamas and perhaps even my pink bunny slippers.  Hee Hee!

Working from home and flexibility go hand in hand.
